A Study of The Mirror and the Breath - under development
The Mirror and The Breath
36x36 Oil on Canvas, on Panel
Work in progress
From The Mercy Series
Before the mirror learned to hold a face,
before the breath became a name,
two shadows gathered at the edge of light,
each carrying the memory of another.
One bore the tenderness of longing.
One bore the silence of the wound.
Between them gathered a golden stillness,
the quiet astonishment
of being seen.
And the mirror opened,
holding the face beneath the face,
the sorrow beneath the knowing,
the life that trembled
where their separate worlds had met.
Then came the breath.
Soft as the first trembling of creation,
HaRetet HaRishon Shel HaBri'ah,
it moved between them,
through the hidden chambers of memory,
through the places where the light
was learning to enter.
And what the mirror revealed,
the breath received.
There, beneath the ancient branches,
where darkness held the memory
of every wound,
mercy found its dwelling.
And in the space between their faces,
something ancient awakened,
a tenderness older than sorrow,
a light that learned to breathe
within the mystery of another.
