The Children Who Carried Dawn

Les Enfants qui portaient l'aube

30x60 Oil on Linen

The cities

had forgotten
how to sing.

Stone remembered
only fire.

Yet three children

walked

as though morning
had entrusted itself

to their hands.

Not because
the world was healed,

but because

someone

must teach the light

where to begin.

The Children Who Carried Dawn portrays three children crossing a landscape of ruined cities toward an expanding horizon of light. Rather than mourning what has been lost, the painting reflects on the quiet responsibility of those who inherit a fractured world. Situated within Christopher Lee Chang’s evolving mythopoetic cycle, The Jerusalem Fumes Trilogy, The Gateway Series, and The Silikind Wars, the work suggests that renewal begins not through power or conquest, but through the courage of those willing to carry hope forward together.
