The Distance Between Us

La Distance entre nous

48x48, Oil on Linen

No wall was built.

No river
changed its course.

Only a silence,
so slight
we believed
we could step across it
tomorrow.

Light remained.
The world remained.

Only the road
learned
how far apart
two hearts
could stand.

The Distance Between Us explores the moment when relationship yields to separation. Two figures face one another across an illuminated threshold while the ruins of a broken world recede into shadow. Rather than portraying conflict itself, the painting dwells in the quiet space where estrangement first appears. Part of an evolving mythopoetic cycle, The Jerusalem Fumes Trilogy, The Gateway Series, and The Silikind Wars, the work reflects on memory, rupture, and the enduring possibility that light continues to gather even where connection has been lost.
