A Study of the Listening Field #5
Oil on canvas, on panel, 40x60
The Listening Field unfolds as a wide horizontal expanse shaped by attention. The painting holds its space with steadiness, allowing the horizon to stretch outward and remain open.
The sky gathers in pale layers of grey, softened violet, and diffused light. These tones move gently across the surface, settling into one another with a sense of ease. Below, the field forms through earthen greens and muted ochres, layered like slow breath across ground. Color arrives gradually, carrying quiet depth and continuity.
The horizon stays low and generous, offering room for the eye to wander and rest. Distant marks—suggestions of birds or figures—appear faintly within the field, held at a distance that preserves stillness. They register as traces of life already in conversation with the land.
Brushwork remains patient and open. Edges soften and mingle. Transitions stay permeable, allowing light to circulate through the surface. The painting carries the feeling of time moving gently, as if the landscape were attuned to what passes through it.
Within the Listening Field series, this work attends to a mode of awareness grounded in receptivity. The landscape holds space for perception to widen and settle. It offers a place where attention can rest without urgency.
The Listening Field remains with what has not yet spoken. It gestures toward presence as a form of care, and toward stillness as a shared activity. The field listens, and in that listening, invites the viewer to do the same.
