The Burning Threshold (Study I)

Oil on Acrylic, on canas 36x48

This painting marks a moment of encounter. A vertical core of radiant heat rises within a field of deep reds and shadowed umbers, held in relation by surrounding darkness that gives it contour, gravity, and duration. The form reads as a threshold, gate-like, upright, attentive, less a passage to be crossed than a place to stand before. What burns here is not display, but continuity: a sustained intensity that asks to be met.

The surface is built through layered veils of color, allowing light to gather from within the field itself. The surrounding tones carry weight and residue, suggesting memory, silence, and consequence as active presences rather than limits. Fire and shadow remain in dialogue, each shaping the other, each necessary to the clarity of the form.

Within the 2025 body of work, The Burning Threshold occupies a liminal position, between holding and becoming, stillness and articulation. It offers an image of truth encountered through attention and steadiness: a place where one does not advance or retreat, but remains present long enough for meaning to reveal its temperature.

An expression of fidelity at the edge of transformation.
